About Katie

The Gymnastics Guide is a website for anyone who wants to learn more about the sport of gymnastics, discover new ways to improve your routines, or get all the latest gymnastics tips and information. We’re glad you’re here!

Now, let’s get to know Katie, the creator of The Gymnastics Guide!

Katie has been involved in the sport of gymnastics for over 30 years as a competitor, coach, and judge. She competed up through the collegiate club team at Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy. She later went on to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Simmons College.

Katie began coaching gymnastics at age 14. She has coached gymnastics at all levels, from preschool and recreational classes through compulsory and optional teams and high school gymnastics. Out of all of these levels, her favorite gymnasts to coach are the beginning compulsory competitors. She has always loved to prepare these brand new gymnasts for competition and teach them their first routines. After the birth of her first child in 2011, Katie has taken a break from coaching, but still enjoys time in the gym helping out when her schedule permits.

Katie began judging gymnastics in 1997. She has been a National rated judge since 2009. She enjoys judging all levels of competitions, from the itty bitties just starting out, up to Level 10 and NCAA athletes. She has judged many invitationals, District, State, and Regional competitions. She has served on the NAWGJ Board since 2009, and is currently the Ohio Education Coordinator.

Katie lives in the Cincinnati area with her husband and three children. When she’s not practicing physical therapy or judging gymnastics, she loves taking walks with her family, watching college football, and baking yummy desserts.
